JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team kicked off their 2023 campaign on the right foot Friday night as they downed Blue Mountain Christian University 2-0 behind a pair of first half goals.
The Blazers were on the front foot from the off, playing a high-pressing style that saw the bulk of the opening minutes played in their attacking half of the field. The aggressive start paid off in the 22nd minute when
Kyla Shaw forced a turnover near the halfway line and then sending a cross-field pass to
Lizbeth Eslava. Eslava quickly cut inside on her left foot and curled home her first goal of the new season.
While Eslava's goal would go on to be the winner, they Blazers would double their lead just before the half hour mark when Belhaven took possession in the attacking third and
Taylor Ford delivered a pinpoint cross into the box.
Kaci Craft capped off the cross with a solid finish to bag her first Belhaven goal.
Belhaven would continue to dominate play through the second half tallying 21 total shots and 14 shots on target. The victory sets Belhaven off to a strong start on the season as they look to build in their second year in the Collegiate Conference of the South.
The Blazers return to action on Thursday, September 7th when they travel to Longview, Texas and face off against former conference foe, LeTourneau University.
