JACKSON, Miss. - Brett Sanchez of the Belhaven Baseball team has been named the National Pitcher of the Year by the D3baseball.com publication, an affiliate of D3sports.com which covers a variety of NCAA Division III Athletics.

Sanchez, who was named the Region VI Pitcher of the Year by D3baseball earlier this week, was also named a First Team All-American in the release. The Belhaven right-hander was dominant on the mound this season as he continues to put together an impressive career resumé. Sanchez led the Blazers on the mound this year with a 6-2 record across 11 starts with five complete games. The Slidell, Louisiana native posted a sparkling 1.81 ERA and 0.88 WHIP while throwing a team-high 84.1 innings on the season.

In those 84.1 innings, Sanchez allowed just 55 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out a career-high 110 batters and limiting opposition to just a .185 batting average against. The fourth-year starter continued to rewrite the record books in 2023 as he became the Blazers' all-time strikeouts leader and the first to surpass 300 career strikeouts.

Sanchez also holds the program record in career complete games, with 19, and shutouts, with eight. Throughout his career, Sanchez is now 26-7 with 39 starts. In 299.0 career innings, Sanchez has a 2.08 ERA, 315 strikeouts and opponents are have a lifetime average of just .204.

Sanchez has already earned the Pitcher of the Year nod for the Collegiate Conference of the South along with a All-CCS First Team spot in the league's inaugural campaign. A preseason D3baseball.com All-American, Sanchez has now earned All-Region recognition in three straight years to go along with being a Ferriss Trophy finalist in 2022. Sanchez was also named a All-Region VI Second Team selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
