MT. BERRY, Ga. - The Belhaven Softball team saw their 2023 season come to a close on Saturday as they fell to #2 Berry on the second day of the NCAA Super Regionals.
The Blazers, who earned their spot in the Mt. Berry Super Regional with a sweep of the Marshall Regional, battled it out with the Vikings in a pitcher's duel for the ages. Both teams were completely shut down offensively through the early innings as
Kennedy Carruth went toe to toe with the Berry pitching combo.
Both teams would go scoreless through seven innings with the Blazers able to escape danger on multiple occasions while forcing the hosts to leave runners in scoring position. With neither team able to find a breakthrough in the regulation innings, the game went to extras with Belhaven hoping to force a decisive third game on the weekend with a win.
With two outs in the top of the 9th, Berry picked up a pair of singles followed by an RBI double which proved to be the difference-maker. Belhaven got the tying run into scoring position twice in the bottom of the 9th but were unable to get the final hit necessary to level the game.
