MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven Softball team has secured a spot in the Final Round of the Marshall Regional after shutting out hosts East Texas Baptist in Friday's winner's bracket game. 

The Blazers, who now sit 2-0 in the Regional, took down the Tigers 4-0 behind a complete game shutout from Kennedy Carruth and some consistent hitting from the entire Belhaven lineup. Both teams were held scoreless through the first two frames despite Belhaven threatening with a pair of baserunners in the bottom of the first inning.

After a scoreless top half of the 3rd by Carruth, the Belhaven bats were able to open the scoring with Allie Gordon delivering a sacrifice fly to score Madison Miller. The Blazers added another run in the same frame on an RBI double from Kennedy Carruth.

Carruth and the Belhaven defense continued to hold the Tigers off the board, limiting opportunities for ETBU to generate scoring chances. ETBU was able to threaten in the 6th with a pair of baserunners on with two outs however Carruth got the inning-ending strikeout to keep the 2-0 lead in tact.

Belhaven would add two more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning as Macy Ziskin shot a line drive down the left field line for an RBI double and then scored with the bases loaded after Madi Miller grounded out.

The Tigers would threaten once again in the 7th inning, loading the bases with two outs which brought the tying run to the plate. Belhaven though got the groundout they needed to secure a spot in the Marshall Regional Final.

The Blazers now await the winner of the final elimination bracket game between Texas Lutheran and East Texas Baptist. Belhaven will be in search of just one win on Saturday to earn a Super Regional berth. First pitch on Saturday is set for 12:00 PM with a second game at 2:30 PM if necessary.
