JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Softball team punched their ticket to the Championship Series of the Collegiate Conference of the South Softball Tournament on Saturday as they rolled past 4th-seeded Piedmont 10-2 in five innings.
The Blazers got off to a fast start in the game taking advantage of a couple of early defensive miscues by the Lions to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st with one run coming on an RBI double by
Allie Gordon.
Belhaven would pick up another run in the bottom of the 3rd as Gordon got her 2nd extra base-hit of the game, this time sending a solo home run out of the park. Piedmont cut into the Blazers lead with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th trimming Belhaven's lead to 3-2.
The Blazers responded with a run in the home half of the same frame before
Ellie Jones doubled the Belhaven lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the 5th. That homer sparked a huge frame for the Blazers who pushed across six runs, all with two outs, to walk-off the Lions in run-rule fashion. The decisive hit came with the bases loaded as
Madi Miller sent a line drive into the gap scoring a pair of securing the Blazers' spot in the Championship Series.
