MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Belhaven Baseball team fell twice to the Rhodes College Lynx in Tuesday's 7-inning doubleheader at Stauffer Field in Memphis, Tennessee. The hosts took the opener 8-3 before pulling away late in Game 2 by a final score of 15-4.
GAME ONE
The Blazers got on the board first in the opening frame on a
Dawson Albin RBI double. He came around to score courtesy of
Hunter Estes' sacrifice fly to give Belhaven a 2-0 lead after the 1st.
The Blazers' leadoff man
Matthew Charbonnet extended the lead to three in the top of the 2nd with an RBI single. Rhodes responded with an RBI single of their own in the home half, this one of the two-run variety to make it 3-2.
The Lynx pushed three across in the 4th to take the lead. A 5th-inning run-scoring double extended the hosts' lead to 6-3 with just two innings to play. Rhodes tacked on a pair in the bottom of the 6th to take an 8-3 advantage into the final inning.
Belhaven failed to rally in the 7th as Rhodes took the opener by the five-run margin.
Dawson Albin and
Caleb Whittle each recorded multiple hits to lead the Blazers at the plate.

GAME TWO
Just like the opener, the Blazers opened the scoring in the top of the 1st with a pair of runs. After a couple of shutout innings from starter
Mark Mitchell, Belhaven added two more as
Nick Lucido scampered home on a stolen base and an error, and
Hunter Estes came through with a two-out RBI knock to score
Caleb Whittle.
A solo home run put the Lynx on the board in the 4th. The following inning proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Rhodes plated seven runs on eight hits in the bottom of the 5th to take an 8-4 lead late.
The Lynx put seven more on the board in the 6th to win it 15-4 over the Blazers.

Belhaven returns to CCS action this weekend as the Blazers welcome Huntingdon to Trustmark Park for the final regular-season home series of 2023. First pitch of the Friday (April 14th) doubleheader is set for 4:00 PM.
