BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 6th-ranked Belhaven Softball team captured a Top-20 road win on Wednesday night, knocking off No. 19 Birmingham-Southern 4-3 in Birmingham. The Blazers improved to 4-1 on the season.
The Panthers opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. That lead held up until the 4th inning when
Sydney Runnels and
Anna McNeer scored on a throwing error to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead.
As
Kennedy Carruth continued to dominate in the circle, Belhaven's bats came through with two key insurance runs in the 5th thanks to a sac fly from
Macy Ziskin and a fielding error that allowed a fourth run to score.
The hosts pushed two runs across in the bottom of the 6th to draw within one, but a quick 1-2-3 inning in the 7th from Carruth closed the door on the Panthers and gave Belhaven a huge 4-3 win.
