JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell 69-58 to Berea College on Saturday as the Blazers' regular season came to a close.
The two teams traded blows early in the first half after Berea got the opening bucket and Belhaven got quick responses. After the initial back and forth however Belhaven found themselves down by double digits as the visitors pushed their lead out against the Blazers.Â
Belhaven did well to keep within touching distance of the Mountaineers though and late free throws by
Jordan Marshall cut the Berea lead down to 39-32 as the game move to the half.
Matthew McMillan hit the first basket of the second half, drilling a three-pointer that cut the gap down to just four points but Berea continued to hold their grip on the game.
In a game that featured plenty of runs, Belhaven never could get on the right side of a sustained push with short scoring bursts keeping them within a few possessions of the visitors but never able to trim it within a possession.
Belhaven's best opportunity to rally came with just over three minutes to play as the Blazers cut the Berea lead down to just six but in the end, the push just was not enough with Belhaven falling on the day.Â
The Blazers were led on the day by
Matthew McMillan who finished with 16 points on 5-8 shooting from three and
Jordan Marshall who also put up 16 points while pulling down 5 rebounds. The Blazers fell to 13-11 on the season with the loss and finish CCS regular season play 7-5 which will land them the two seed in the conference tournament which starts next week.Â
Belhaven will now host Huntingdon on Tuesday, February 21st in Rugg Arena. Tip off between the Blazers and Hawks is set for 7 PM.
