Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kenneth Nash

Blazers Fall on the Road at Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team fell for just the second time this season as they were knocked off by Colorado College 65-60 in a game that remained close throughout the contest.

The Blazers and Tigers stayed within single-digits of each other throughout the game with both teams holding the advantage at various points. After Belhaven jumped out to an early 9-2 lead, Colorado College would pull ahead and hold a multi-possession lead for most of the latter stages of the first half.

Belhaven however would be the team on top at the break as a 9-0 run in the final minutes sent the Blazers into the lead and they took a 35-34 advantage into the half. Out of the break, once again the opening minutes were led by the Blazers with the hosts retaking the lead in the middle stage of the half.

Colorado College would extend their lead to a game-high nine points with just over six minutes to play and led by eight with just over three minutes to go. A quick 5-0 run for Belhaven would cut the hosts' lead to just one possession but in the final minute, Belhaven was unable to get the game back level.

Saturday's defeat marked the first time this season that Belhaven has lost the rebounding battle against their opposition, albeit the margin against the Tigers was 41-40. Belhaven also lost the turnover battle against the non-conference foe 18-11 which led to a 20-10 margin in points off the turnover for the hosts.

Luke Couch led all scorers on the day with 19 points on 6-10 shooting from the field while Jacob Reese tallied 10 points, the only other player in double figures. Colorado College saw 12 different players register a point with Ruegg the lead at nine points on 3-11 shooting from the field.

Belhaven will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Birmingham-Southern at Rugg Arena. The Blazers fell to Birmingham-Southern in Alabama earlier this season 92-87 in overtime. Tipoff against the Panthers is set for 4:00 PM.
