Box Score ATLANTA, Ga.- The Belhaven Men's Basketball Team came up short in their matchup with Regis on the opening day of the Jack Berkshire Classic.
The first half was tight with both teams exchanging point after point. Belhaven managed to make a push for the lead after a layup by
Judah Jordan gave the Blazers a 27-22 lead with less than nine minutes remaining. As the half neared the end, Regis continued to stay on the heels of the Blazers by pushing the tempo. Belhaven managed to outlast the push by the Pride and enter the half with a 38-36 lead.
The Blazers got off to a commanding start in the second half after back to back threes from sharpshooter
Luke Couch gave the Blazers a 53-41 lead. The Pride did not back down easily and went on a 15-3 run to tie the game. Regis took this momentum and grabbed a 68-58 lead with five minutes remaining in the contest. The Blazers made a massive push towards the end and took a 73-72 lead after a pair of clutch free throws from
Judah Jordan. After the Pride converted on a jumper to take a one point lead, the Blazers came up short in the final seconds 74-73.
The Blazers shot 39.9% from the field as well as an impressive 47.4% from behind the arc.
Luke Couch was the front man for Belhaven by finishing with a season high 24 points on stellar shooting splits of 50% from the field and 80% from three while also grabbing nine rebounds.
Judah Jordan continues to control the pace of the Blazers offense as he poured in 23 points on 61.5% shooting and grabbing six rebounds with five assists.
Belhaven will look to end the Jack Berkshire Classic on a high note as they face Bard College on Saturday, December 30. The Blazers will tip off at 1 PM.
