LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team saw their successful 2023 campaign come to a close on Saturday as they fell 2-0 to Covenant in the Collegiate Conference of the South Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Final.
The Blazers and Scots were in a scoreless deadlock through the entirety of the first half and the majority of the second. Belhaven defended well and goalkeeper
Max Rudolph tallied three saves by the intermission.Â
With the match hanging in the balance late, it was Covenant who was able to tip the scales in their favor scoring the first goal of the match in the 81st minute before tacking on a second goal a minute later.
The Blazers finish the 2023 season with an overall record of 9-4-5 and they finished both the CCS regular season and tournament in second place. The nine win campaign is the most for the Blazers since they had 11 in 2019 and the most under Head Coach
James Gledhill who took over partway through the spring of 2021. This year marks just the second time the Blazers have reached nine wins since 2015.Â
Belhaven's year was highlighted by a stout defense which conceded just 0.89 goals per match and both the goalkeeper
Max Rudolph, and the program as a whole sit inside the Top 10 nationally in clean sheets.Â
In attack, Belhaven saw 12 different players tally a goal with freshman
Courtland Williams ending the campaign as top scorer with seven.
Koby Rhone ended the season as the Blazers top assist provider with four and five Blazers earned All-Conference recognition.Â
