JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team saw their 2023 campaign come to a close on Wednesday night, falling in the Collegiate Conference of the South Semifinal to Covenant, 1-0, at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. It capped a historic and success-filled season for the Blazers. Their 13 wins are the most since 2001 and rank second in program history.
Neither team could take control in the early going as the Blazers and Scots traded possession in the opening half. Belhaven held the slight advantage in terms of opportunities as the Green and Gold put up five shots in the half but nothing on target.
The Blazers produced a flurry of corner kicks to begin the second 45 but were unable to find the back of the net. Covenant was able to respond and find the breakthrough in the 56th minute to take the 1-0 lead.
For the remainder of the match, Belhaven went on the attack and controlled the possession but were unable to connect. Despite six shots in the final 20 minutes, the Blazers could not find an equalizer to fall in heartbreaking fashion.
Despite the loss, the 2023 season will go down as one of the most successful in Belhaven Women's Soccer history. The Blazers' 55 goals, 3.06 goals per game, and 0.53 GAA all rank second in school history.
Kaci Craft's 14 goals and 29 points are both top-five all-time in a single season.
Kyla Shaw also entered the top-five during the season in career points (71) and goals (28).
