Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Belhaven Men's Basketball team comeback bid fell short as Covenant defeated Belhaven 65-58 on Saturday in conference play. With the loss, the Blazers move to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in Collegiate Conference of the South play.
The Blazers and Scots exchanged possessions and buckets to open the contest, but the hosts held on the 12-11 advantage over the Blazers at the first media timeout of the contest. Covenant remained in the lead in the final 10 minutes of the first half as Belhaven trailed by four points at the halftime break.
Covenant came out of the break and drilled a three pointer to extend their lead to seven points. The Scots lead by 14 points with 7:31 to go in the contest. The Blazers closed the gap to five points with 50 seconds to go in the second half, but the Scots held on to secure the 65-58 victory over the Blazers after some clutch free throws.
Jordan Marshall led the Blazers with 16 points and went 7-14 from the field, while
Judah Jordan posted 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the contest.
Matthew McMillan and
Neal Terry tallied eight points apiece in the game. As a team, the Blazers shot 44.8 % from the floor and shot 31.3% from behind the arc.
The Blazers will look to bounce back on Tuesday, January 24 against cross town rival Millsaps College inside the Hanger Dome on the campus of Millsaps. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
