Box Score DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team grabbed another big win in Collegiate Conference of the South play with an 82-80 victory over Piedmont on Friday.
The Blazers were lights out from beyond the arc in this game which proved to be the difference maker in the early going. Early in the first half the hosts took a quick 14-5 lead but the Belhaven shooting from deep quickly catapulted the Blazers in front.Â
At the 10:27 mark of the first half
Matthew McMillan hit his fourth three-pointer of the game to give the Blazers their first lead of the contest 22-20. The Blazers' remained scorching hot from deep and three minutes after taking their first lead BU found themselves up by double digits.Â
At the end of the first half the Blazers led 52-39 and were a combined 12-19 from three, good for 63.2%.
Matthew McMillan led the way at the break with 15 points on 5-6 shooting from beyond the arc.Â
The Lions came out of the half time break strong and quickly closed the Belhaven lead back down. After trading blows in the second half Piedmont trimmed the Belhaven lead down to two possessions. With 35 seconds to go
Martavin McWilliams hit two big free throws that put the Blazers on top 82-76. Piedmont got a quick basket and then forced an immediate turnover on Belhaven leading to a bucket and a foul.Â
The free throw attempt for the Lions with 15 seconds left was off target and the rebound was knocked away as time expired. With the win the Blazers improved to 9-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.Â
On the day the Blazers were led by
Jordan Marshall who tallied 24 points while pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Matthew McMillan had a big game as well tallying 23 points while finishing 7-11 from three.Â
Belhaven will have a quick turnaround now as they take on Covenant tomorrow afternoon in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.Â
