LOUISVILLE, Ky. The Belhaven Softball team finished the season ranked 7
th in the latest NFCA Division III poll.
The Blazers captured the American Southwest Conference Championship for the first time to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Regionals. The Blazers was selected to the Marshall Regional as the #1 seed and won the Regional in three games defeating Fontbonne University, #15 East Texas Baptist University, and #14 Linfield University. After winning the regional, the Blazers was paired up with #3 Texas Lutheran for the NCAA Super Regionals and came up short in two games to conclude the season.
The Blazers spent the majority of the 2022 season inside the top 10 of the NFCA Division III National poll and picked up 11 wins over teams that are currently ranked in the top 25. Six of the Blazers' eight losses came from teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 poll.
Belhaven Softball had nine athletes that was named ASC All-Conference with five athletes being named first team.
Allie Gordon was named the American Southwest Conference Player of the Year along with being named to the NFCA All-Region X First team and earned a spot on the NFCA All-America Second team.
Kennedy Carruth earned the American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, was named to the NFCA All-Region X First team, and sealed a spot on the NFCA All-America Second Team. Additionally, Carruth finished the season with 230 strikeouts, which she now holds the American Southwest Conference single-season strikeout record.
Ellie Jones earned the American Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year, was named to the NFCA All-Region X team, and sealed a spot on the NFCA All-America Second Team. Additionally, Jones was named a top 10 finalist for the 2022 Schutt Sports / NFCA Division III National Freshman of the Year.
Haley Hanson also earned a spot on the NFCA All-Region X Second team.
The Belhaven Softball team's coaching staff was named the American Southwest Conference Staff of the Year for the 2022 season, the second straight year the staff has earned this recognition. Head Coach Kevin Griffin, Assistant CoachÂ

McKenna Gillespie were recognized for the leadership and coaching they provided to the Blazers softball team which was among the best in the country throughout the season.Â
Belhaven finished the season with an overall record of 41-8 and 26-4 in conference play.
