RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Baseball team saw their statement 2022 season come to a close on Sunday in the American Southwest Conference Red Bracket Final after being beaten by the UT Dallas Comets across two games.

Belhaven, who finished the year with an overall record 28-16, ended the regular season 3rd place in the American Southwest Conference standings with an ASC record of 19-11 after being picked to finish 6th in the conference's preseason poll. The 28-win season marks the most for the Blazers in a single campaign since 2015 and the most since Belhaven Athletics joined the NCAA and Division III. 

GAME ONE

In the first game the Blazers opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning but the Comets quickly answered with three runs in the same frame. Belhaven retook the lead in the top of the 3rd with another two run frame but once again it was UT Dallas who was quick to answer with a two-run inning of their own in the bottom of the 3rd. 

UT Dallas grabbed a run in the 4th inning to take a 6-4 lead with the Blazers tied in the top half of the 6th inning with their third, two-run frame of the game. The Comets were again quick to respond scoring twice in the bottom of the 6th before scoring four in the 7th and one in the 8th to lead 13-6. 

In the top of the 9th, Belhaven scored another two runs to cut the deficit but weren't able to push the comeback bid any further which forced them into a final game for the ASC Red Bracket bid to the Gold Bracket. 

GAME TWO

Belhaven once again took the lead in the second game of the day with three runs in the top of the 3rd inning and made it a four run lead with a run in the top of the 4th inning. The Comets struck for a big inning in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game with four runs thanks to a bases-clearing triple. 

In the bottom of the 5th UT Dallas took the lead with a pair of runs and then extended the 6-4 lead to an 8-4 lead with two more runs in the 7th frame.
