Belhaven Finishes Comeback Win with Walk-Off Home Run on Senior Day

CLINTON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team clinched their weekend series against the University of the Ozarks (AR) on Saturday in dramatic fashion, coming from behind late and winning it with a three-run walk-off home run on Senior Day.

The game was a high-scoring affair and the runs started early with Belhaven scoring a pair in the bottom of the 1st on Chase Kitchen's RBI single that scored Nick Lucido and Dawson Albin. Ozarks answered with two runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Belhaven jumped back in front in the bottom of the 2nd with three runs that put BU up 5-2 heading to the 3rd inning.

Ozarks put together a five-run inning in the top of the 3rd inning to take their first lead of the game, 7-5, and then added another in the 4th to lead 8-5. Dawson Albin's RBI double in the 4th pushed across a run for the Blazers to cut the visitors lead down to two runs and Kyle McLaughlin trimmed it to a one-run deficit with an RBI single.

The Eagles got their second five-run inning of the game in the top of the 6th to push their lead out to 13-7 and they held that six-run lead into the final third of the ballgame. Belhaven's bats found a second wind and Caleb Whittle started the Blazers' comeback bid with a two-run homer, his 3rd of the season, to trim the Ozarks' lead down to 13-9.

Then in the 8th Belhaven was able to cut the deficit back to just a run with Dawson Albin sending a two-run home run out to center field, his 3rd homer of the year. Matthew Charbonnet drove in the third run of the 8th inning with a sac fly that nearly was another home run and sent us to the 9th inning with a 13-12 scoreline.

After Will Swift kept the visitors scoreless in the top of the 9th the Blazers would have an opportunity to cap off their Senior Day with a walk-off win. Caleb Whittle opened the inning with a walk and after at-bats by Kyle McLaughlin and Nathan Herron, the Blazers had runners at first and second with one out. In an 0-2 count, Senior Nick Lucido then provided the fireworks with a walk-off three run homer to left field.
