JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team finished out their ASC series sweep of Howard Payne University on Saturday taking the finale 4-2 behind strong pitching and an important 4th inning rally.
In similar fashion to the backend of Friday's doubleheader it was Howard Payne who got on the board first with the visitors grabbing a run in the top of the 2nd inning after stringing together a trio of hits including an RBI double. The Yellow Jackets added a run to their lead in the top of the 3rd inning after a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.Â
Trailing 2-0, the Blazers offense sparked to life for a game-changing 4th inning.
Nathan Herron led off the inning with a base hit and advanced to third on a double by
Dawson Albin. With runners on second and third
Adam Leonard worked a walk and Herron was able to score on the ball four, wild pitch.
Belhaven would take the lead in their next at-bat when
Hunter White delivered his first home run of the season scoring three runs and putting the Blazers in front 4-2, a scoreline that held the remainder of the game.Â
Following the home run
Beau Louviere was able to keep the Yellow Jackets quiet into the sixth inning and reliever
Will Swift came in to pitch the final three frames securing his first save of the season. With the win the Blazers improve to 7-5 on the year and 7-5 in ASC play. They'll look to continue the momentum following their third straight series win as they host the University of St. Thomas (Houston) in a non-conference series next weekend.Â
