Belhaven Wins in Extras to Secure Series Sweep of Sul Ross

ALPINE, Texas - After taing the first two games of their series against Sul Ross on Friday the Belhaven Baseball team finished off their series sweep of the Lobos with an extra innings win on Saturday.

Sul Ross took the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning on a sac bunt but the Blazers quickly responded scoring twice in the 2nd inning. Caleb Whittle opened the scoring with an RBI single and then Matthew Charbonnet made it 2-1 on a sac fly. 

Neither team was able to change the course of the game until the 6th inning when the Lobos tied the game on a solo homerun. Kyle McLaughlin restored the Blazers' lead in the 7th inning on an RBI single but the Lobos quickly tied the game at 3-3 on an RBI single. 

In the top of the 9th inning Belhaven seemed to have clinched the game taking a 4-3 lead on Nathan Herron's RBI double and then added a run on a passed ball. However once against Sul Ross answered with two runs in the bottom of the 9th and sent the game into extra innings. 

The Blazers took an extra innings lead in the top of the 10th after Nick Lucido scored on a throwing error by the Lobos but the hosts leveled the score in the bottom of the frame. Logan Goodreau was able to strand the winning on base to send the game to the 11th inning. 

In what would be the final frame, the Blazers grabbed the go-ahead run and an insurance run on Dawson Albin's RBI double that scored a pair of the runs and ultimately won the game. Goodreau returned to the mound in the 11th and was able to ice the game for Belhaven who improved to 10-8 on the season and 10-5 in conference play.
