JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball fell 69-61 to East Texas Baptist on Tuesday in a close game that went down to the wire.
It was the visitors who took a quick 5-0 lead in the contest but the Blazers were quick to answer with a 13-2 run that put them up by six just before the 14 minute mark of the first half. Belhaven would continue to hold a small lead throughout much of the first half before the Tigers went on a late scoring run and retook the lead with 3:05 to go in the half. Martavin McWilliams put Belhaven up by two though at the break.
The two sides traded baskets early in the second half with the visitors regaining the lead with just over 14 minutes left in the contest. East Texas Baptist held the lead the rest of the way fending off late pushes from the Blazers.
On the night the Blazers were led in scoring by
Luke Couch who finished with a team-high 19 points on 6-10 shooting.
Arother Ratliff added 17 points, seven rebounds and five blocks for Belhaven in the game.
The Blazers will look to bound back on Thursday when they face MUW at 7:30 PM inside Rugg Arena.
