ALPINE, Texas – The Belhaven Men's Basketball team lost on Thursday to the Sul Ross State Lobos by a final score of 91-59 on the road.
Sul Ross took an early advantage in the contest with a quick 18-2 scoring run out of the gate. The Lobos maintained their lead throughout the first half, but a strong scoring stretch coupled with some timely defensive stops by the Blazers closed the gap to a three-point game with just under five minutes to go in the first half. Belhaven was unable to sustain their run however and pulled back out in front 42-27 going into the break.
The hosts kept their hot hand from the floor in the second half and pulled away from the Blazers over the remainder of the game.
Belhaven was led by
Matthew McMillan who finished the game with a team-high 18 points on 6-10 shooting from beyond the three-point line.
Luke Couch tacked on 11 points and pulled down three rebounds.
Jay Brantley finished with seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Blazers will look now to their contest against Howard Payne University on Saturday. Tip off in Brownwood, Texas is set for 3 PM.
