JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Softball team picked up a non-conference win on Tuesday knocking off crosstown rival Millsaps 5-0 at Jim McLeod Field.
Belhaven pitcher
Kennedy Carruth made quick work of the Majors in the opening inning striking out the side despite a dropped 3rd strike allowing a baserunner to reach. Carruth followed up with a quick second inning that included another three strikeouts which put her at 7 K's through two innings of work.Â
The Blazers offense though was kept off the board early in the game as well until BU put together a four-run fourth inning to take the lead. The offensive burst started with a leadoff double from
Anna McNeer who moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Sydney Runnels.
Abby Trahan then delivered a squeeze bunt to score McNeer and reach first.
Ellie Jones then followed with her first career home run, a two-run homer to left field, which gave Belhaven a 3-0 lead. After a pitching chance in the same frame,
Macy Ziskin was hit by a pitch, stole second and then scored on an RBI single by
Haley Hanson.Â
Carruth continued to hold the Majors scoreless in the fifth inning and
Natalie Parker kept Millsaps off the board in the sixth inning. Belhaven added a single run to their lead in the home half of the sixth inning after
Jordan Kanipe scored on an RBI single by
Allie Gordon.Â
Gracey Baucom made her second appearance of the season in the circle to finish out the game and picked up a pair of strikeouts to close out the Belhaven win.Â
