Second-Half Surge Pushes Belhaven Past Spalding 80-72

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After dropping last night's Thanksgiving Classic opener, the Belhaven Men's Basketball team bounced back by knocking off Spalding 80-72 Saturday night in Memphis. Belhaven used a second-half surge to secure the win and head coach Josh Brooks' first as a Blazer.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before the Blazers responded with a run of their own. Jordan Marshall's layup put Belhaven up 11-10 with 14:59 in the opening half.

Spalding took control midway through the half thanks to a 19-2 run to take a 29-13 lead. Belhaven began chipping away, cutting the Golden Eagle lead to just seven with 40 seconds to play in the first half. Spalding was able to extend their lead to 11 at 41-30 heading into the break.

Belhaven came out hot in the second, scoring the first seven points to get within four. The Blazers took their first lead of the half with 12:35 to go after Donovan Givens connected on a three-pointer to put Belhaven in front 50-49.

Givens followed back-to-back threes from Jordan Marshall with another three of his own to cap off a 20-4 run that put the Blazers in control with under 10 minutes to go.

Judah Jordan's three with two minutes left gave Belhaven their largest lead of the game at 74-61, and the Blazers cruised the rest of the way to the tune of an 80-72 win.

It was all Belhaven in the second 20 minutes. The Blazers shot 58.6% (17-for-29) from the field and 69.2 (9-for-13) from three in rout to 50 second-half points.

Marshall was unstoppable for Belhaven, finishing with a game-high 40 points on 16-of-28 from the field. Givens finished with 17 points on 5-of-9 from three-point range. Jordan filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven assists, five steals, and four rebounds.
