Box Score GREENSBORO, NC. – It was all Belhaven on Saturday in Greensboro, as the Blazers went on the road and trounced the Pride by a final of 59-7. Belhaven improved to 5-1 (3-1 USAS) with the lopsided win.
The offense was rolling early and often for the Blazers.
Kolbe Blunt found paydirt on a 51-yard run to put Belhaven in front. Greensboro responded with a touchdown of their own, but Blunt scored his second rushing touchdown of the day from two yards out to give the Blazers the lead back.
After a Greensboro three-and-out, Belhaven struck again for the first time through the air. Quarterback
Tim Johnson hit
Cooper Tullo for a 42-yard score to extend the lead to 21-7 late in the first quarter.
After a failed fourth-down conversion by the Pride,
Constantine Hontzas capped off an almost five-minute drive by the Blazers by nailing a 28-yard field goal.
Belhaven lit up the scoreboard again midway through the second as
Kolbe Blunt scored from 25-yards out to put the Blazers up 31-7. Greensboro followed that up with another three-and-out, and the offense continued to roll with
Tim Johnson finding
Phabian Carter for a 23-yard touchdown with 3:13 to play in the half.
Just two plays later, defensive back
Phazion Locke intercepted a Pride pass to give Belhaven great field position at the Greensboro 32. Following a Johnson interception, Belhaven got the ball right back courtesy of a
TJ Hersey pick. Johnson connected with Tullo for six for the second time on the day to give the Blazers a commanding 45-7 halftime lead.
The Green and Gold picked up where they left off in the second half.
Kolbe Blunt found the endzone from three yards out, putting Belhaven up 52-7. Blunt's fourth score of the game broke the Belhaven record for most rushing touchdowns in a game.
Devin Daniels added the eighth and final touchdown on the board for the Blazers, scampering in for a 38-yard touchdown run with a minute left in the third quarter. After it was all set and done, Belhaven scored the game's last 52 points to cruise to the win.
It was a record-setting day for the Blazers' offense. Belhaven accumulated a whopping 709 yards of total offense, shattering the single-game record. The rushing attack, led by Blunt (144) and Daniels (132), racked up a single-game record 492 yards on 58 attempts.
D'Ante Gallashaw added another 70 on the ground.
Through the air, Johnson went 10-for-16 for 170 yards and three scores. Tullo led the receiver room with three receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Belhaven continues to shine this season. The Blazers' defense held the Pride to just 184 total yards and forced four turnovers. The unit was also dominant on third downs, stopping the Pride on all nine of their attempts.
Belhaven returns home next Saturday, October 22nd, when they host Southern Virginia for homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 12 PM at the Bowl.
