MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Belhaven University women's soccer team picked up its second straight win on Tuesday evening, defeating NAIA school Faulkner University 1-0 on the road. With the win, the Blazers improve to 2-0 overall.
The lone goal of the match came at the 16' mark when
Anna Crane beat the Eagles backline to net her second goal of the year to give the Blazers the early advantage. The Blazers' defense held strong for the remainder of the first half to keep the score at 1-0.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Eagles desperately tried to score the equalizing goal, but the Blazers held strong as the score halted at 1-0 in Belhaven's favor. Faulkner tried to rally late but the Blazers played stellar defense to secure the 1-0 victory.
Anna Crane,
Emily Easterling, and
Lauren Samford each took two shots in the contest. Four additional Blazers registered a shot as well for the Green and Gold.
Lauren Knorr played the first half in goal and tallied two saves and
Julianne Wilson locked down the second half for the Blazers as the keeper and posted eight saves.
As a team, the Blazers finished the match with 10 shots with three of them being on-goal.
The Blazers will return home on Saturday, Sept. 11 to take on the Huntingdon College Hawks. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
