AUSTIN, Texas – The Belhaven University volleyball team dropped a straight set decision to the Concordia Tornados on Sunday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
In the opening set, the Blazers and Tornados were neck and neck for the majority of the set, but late in the first set Concordia defended home field advantage well and took the first set by a final score of 25-18.
Early in the second set both teams exchanged leads until the score halted at 12-12. Concordia scored five of the next 6 points to make the score 17-13. The Blazers continued to battle with the tornados, but CTX took the second set by a final of 25-20.
The Blazers knew that the third set was a must win set. The Green and Gold fought hard in the third set and battle right down to the final whistle; however, the Tornados would take the third set by a final score of 25-23 to defeat Belhaven 3-0.
Ellie Jones led the offensive attack with six kills, while Emily Carroll finished the match with five kills. Grace Eidson posted 18 assists and Paige Broussard led the team with three service aces. Defensively, Emily Carroll posted five blocks, while Lillianna Marlowe finished the match with 16 digs.
The Blazers will return to the court on Monday, September 27 against #9 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru in Belton, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
