Blazers Complete ASC Sweep Against McMurry

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team came from behind to win 11-10 against the McMurry University Warhawks on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.  With the win, the Blazers move to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Green and Gold currently are riding a five-game winning streak.  McMurry fell to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in ASC play. 

The Warhawks struck first in the game scoring three runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to make the score 6-0 after three complete innings. The Blazers got on the board and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring seven runs on six hits to make the score 7-6 after four complete innings. 

Belhaven held the Warhawks scoreless in the fifth and added two runs in the bottom half of the inning to bring the score to 9-6. The Blazers tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the score to 10-6. McMurry started to heat up in the top of the eighth plating four runs to level the score to 10-10. The Blazers finished added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to take the 11-10 lead. Belhaven would go on to defeat McMurry by a final score of 11-10 and sweep the three-game series. 

As a team, the Blazers scored 11 runs on 11 hits in the win over the Warhawks. Trip Benson led the offensive attack going 2-for-3 from the plate and scored two runs in the contest. Evan MooreHunter White, and Trip Benson had two hits each and scored five runs together. Additionally, Trip Benson had a triple and stole three bases in the game, while Nathan Herron and Reed Bolton each had two RBI in the win. Luke Miller got the win on the mound for the Blazers to bring his record to 2-0.  

The Blazers will return to the field on Friday, March 12 against the University of St. Thomas (Houston) Celts in a doubleheader in Houston Texas. The action is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
