JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University Softball team jumped one spot in the NFCA Division III Top 25 poll and are now ranked in the Top 10.
The Blazers picked up a pair of 2-1 wins in a series win over American Southwest Conference foe Howard Payne University over the weekend to help propel them to the #10 ranking in the latest poll released on Wednesday, March 24.
Kennedy Carruth had a big week for the Blazers both in the circle and at the plate. Carruth picked up both wins, pitching 14 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and three walks with 19 strikeouts, 13 in the game one win. She also batted .444 (4-for-9) with three doubles, one home run, four RBI, and one run scored. Carruth's two-run home run was her first of the season and was the eventual game-winner in the series finale for the Blazers, while
Elizabeth Taggard hit a solo home run that proved to be the difference for the Blazers in the game one 2-1 win.

The Blazers are 15-5 overall and 7-2 in ASC play and will return to action on the road with a series against the Sul Ross State University Lobos. The series will start with a doubleheader on Friday, March 26, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
