JACKSON, Miss. -  The Belhaven University Softball team finished their American Southwest Conference series against the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets in a decisive game three on Saturday, March 20. The Blazers earned a series win with their 2-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets game three.

The Yellow Jackets took an early lead as they plated their only run of the game in the second inning, while the Blazers took the lead with their two runs in the fifth inning. Marlee Blackwell reached and advanced to second on an error. Bailey Root was then brought in as a pinch runner for Blackwell, while Kennedy Carruth helped her own cause as she took one swing of the bat and smashed her first home run of the season plating both runs and giving the Blazers a 2-1 lead. The Blazers then allowed just three baserunners for the Yellow Jackets including two in the seventh, but a looking strikeout ended the scoring threat sealing the game three and series win for the Blazers.

Kennedy Carruth got the start in the circle for the Blazers and improved to 9-2 overall. Carruth pitched her ninth complete game of the season allowing one unearned run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts. The Blazers had seven hits as a team with Allie Gordon going 3-for-3 at the plate, while Marlee Blackwell had two hits during the contest. Haley Hanson and Kennedy Carruth had one hit apiece, while Carruth had two RBI on the day.

The Blazers improve to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in ASC play and will return to action with a road series against the Sul Ross State University Lobos. The doubleheader on Friday, March 26, is set to start at 2 p.m.
