CLARKSVILLE, AR. – The Belhaven University Women's Soccer Team took to the road to open their 2020-21 season with a contest against the University of the Ozarks Eagles. The Blazers came away with a 2-0 victory on the pitch over the Eagles on Friday, February 12.
Neither team scored in the first half as the Blazers accounted for four shots with three being on target, while the Eagles had seven shots with five on target. However, the Blazers wasted little time in the second half as sophomore forward
Brittany Mathis found the back of the net in the 53rd minute with an assist from freshman forward
Kyla Shaw. Shaw got her second assist of the match as freshman defender
Izel Gaitan headed the ball into the back of the net in the 71st minute to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead. The Blazers did not allow a shot by the Eagles after the second goal sealing the 2-0 victory.
As a team, the Blazers accounted for 13 shots with ten on target while facing nine shots with seven on target. Freshman goalkeeper
Lauren Knorr had six saves in her in-goal debut for the Blazers. The Blazers improve to 1-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in American Southwest Conference play and will return to action on Friday, February 19, as they host the East Texas Baptist University Tigers. The action will kickoff at 5 pm inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
