JACKSON, Miss. - With 2021 coming to a close, the Belhaven Athletics Communication Department is highlighting some of the Blazers' top moments from the year. We continue with Belhaven Softball Defeating Millikin University 2-1 to Win First NCAA Postseason Game in Program History.

The Blazers concluded the 2021 season as ASC East Division Champions with a record of 31-12. The Belhaven Softball team received their East Division Championship rings at halftime of the football game against Sul Ross on October 16th, 2021. Additionally, the Blazers hosted the American Southwest Conference Softball Tournament and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championships in the Decatur, Ill. Regional, hosted by the Millikin University Big Blue.

As a team, the Blazers finished the year with a .298 team batting average, hit 33 homeruns, and had a .445 slugging percentage. The Green and Gold concluded the year being ranked 19th in the final NFCA Division III Top 25 poll. The Blazers were ranked as high as #6 in the poll during the season.

Some accolades that Belhaven Softball received throughout the season was Kennedy Carruth breaking the single season conference record with seven ASC pitcher of the week honors. Carruth also earned ASC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year. Additionally, Carruth was named Wilson/NFCA Division III Pitcher of the Week twice, earned a spot on the 2021 NFCA First team All-Region, and was a NFCA First Team All-American. Allie Gordon also was also named to the NFCA All-Region Team. 

The accolades kept rolling in for Belhaven as seven Blazers were named to the ASC All-Conference Teams. Head Coach Kevin Griffin, Assistant Coach Courtney Fairley, and Assistant Coach Mallory Parsons earned 2021 ASC Coaching Staff of the Year to round out the accolades during the 2021 season.
