Belhaven Falls in PKs to Concordia (TX) in ASC Quarterfinals

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team saw their 2021 season come to a close on Tuesday after being beaten in a penalty shootout by Concordia (TX) in the ASC Quarterfinals.

The match was an open one with action quickly flowing from one end to the other. The hosts had a couple of early half chances with Belhaven creating opportunities on counterattacks but neither side was able to open the scoring in the first half.

The energy picked up in the second half with both teams having point blank goal opportunities saved by the goalkeepers. Max Rudolph pulled off a strong double save late in the contest to keep it level but with just 10 minutes to go, the hosts took a 1-0 lead through a goal scored by Marcos Vazquez.

Time seemed to have run out on the Blazers until Enzo Guercio delivered a beautiful strike on a long-range free kick to level the contest with only 30 seconds left on the clock. Guercio's goal sent the match to extra time.

Neither team was able to create much in the two cagey extra time periods sending the match to a penalty shootout where the Blazers were beaten 6-5 by the Tornados.

The Blazers finished the regular season 6-8-1 and marked their third consecutive season competing in the ASC tournament. Dalton Morgan finishes the season as the Blazers' top goalscorer with seven goals while Enzo Guercio finished with four tallies including Tuesday night's. Brady Jacobs led the team with six assists and Max Rudolph registered a team high 59 saves.
