Blazers Fall on the Road at #2 UMHB

BELTON, Texas - The Belhaven Football team saw their four-game win streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten by #2 Mary Hardin-Baylor 29-0 at Crusader Stadium.

In the game the Blazers were able to move the ball with some consistency getting into Cru territory on three of their four first half drives. However the Blazers struggled to see out drives stalling out each time before getting into the red zone.

The hosts led 10-0 going into the half but Belhaven was unable to flip the script in the second half and a late score in the third quarter combined with a pair of fourth quarter scores solidified the victory for the hosts.

As an offense the Blazers put up 237 total yards on 71 offensive snaps. The Blazers ran for 100 yards on the afternoon and threw for 137 yards but came up short when translating the ball movement into points. The Belhaven defense held UMHB to 291 yards of total offense and just 114 yards through the air.

On offense, Mayowa Asagunla finished 15-27 on pass attempts for 137 yards and an interception. Asagunla also added 63 yards on the ground via 18 rush attempts. Brad Foley added 34 yards on 20 carries for the Blazers while Michael Simpson posted 73 yards receiving on six catches.

Defensively, TJ Hersey and Connor Fordham both finished with a joint team-high five tackles while Fordham picked up a tackle for loss. Carlton Brown picked up a couple of blocked kicks along with a tackle for loss in the game as well.

The Blazers will look to bounce back next Saturday as they return to the Bowl Stadium for Belhaven Homecoming. The Blazers will face McMurry University (2-5) with kickoff set for 1 PM.
