Blazers Secure Senior Day Victory

JACKSON, Miss - The Belhaven University Men's Soccer Squad get back to winning ways on Senior Night against the W Owls by the final score of 4-1.

Senior night illuminates a special atmosphere unlike any other home match. The buoyancy created by family and friends brought together by a soccer match gets any player buzzing to play, not that the seniors need it. The Blazers were able to obtain another win led by their Senior crew.

The match began with a seesaw affair with both teams moving freely on the pitch going forward. Set-pieces can often define games, and the Blazers were able to capitalize off of a Brady Jacobs Corner kick in the 23rd minute, which was an own goal by the Owls to begin the scoring for Belhaven. Creating combinations going forward, Belhaven's leading Marksman Dalton Morgan slotted home a tidy finish with his favored right boot to put the Blazers up just 5 minutes later.

"It was a good finish but an even better performance," Morgan states, "We were able to capitalize today and build some momentum heading into postseason play. It was an overall good night in the bowl."

The Blazers were cruising heading into halftime. After the second half whistle, Captain John Avery Slay secured his first collegiate goal via a penalty kick as calm as you like in the 60th minute as he couldn't have picked a better night for this feat.

"We're happy with the win," Slay said, "It is a blessing to finally score after playing so many career games. I wouldn't want to write my story any other way as I'm glad my last game in the Bowl ended with a goal."

13 minutes later, the Owls forced their way onto the scoresheet to make the score 3-1. However, their goal was unable to spark momentum as our Man of the Match, Striker Enzo Guercio put any scare to bed by adding another score for the Blazers; which finished the match 4-1.

The Blazers look to build on their win against the W heading into post season play. Dalton Morgan recorded his 7th goal of the season as Enzo bagged his 3rd score and 2nd assist of the season. Brady Jacobs also added his impressive 7th assist in regular season play. The Blazers would finish with 12 shots and 4 saves, split by Goalkeepers Max Rudolph and Wade Martin.

The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday, November 2 against Concordia (Texas) University Tornados in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m in Austin, Texas.
