MARSHALL, Texas – The Belhaven University women's basketball was unable to slow down one of top teams in the American Southwest Conference on Saturday afternoon as they fell by a score of 97-66.
The Blazers led 11-10 early in the first quarter, but the Tigers fired back to go on a 14-4 run to bring the score to 24-15 at the end of the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, the Tigers extended their lead to 20 points, but the Blazers closed the quarter going on a 7-2 run to make the score 46-31 to give the Tigers the advantage. The Tigers continued to shoot well from the field, as they extended their lead to 26 points at the end of the third quarter to make the score 76-50. ETBU continued to dominate the floor and would eventually go on to defeat the Blazers by a final score of 97-66.
As a team, the Blazers went 33.8 percent from the field and 60.9 percent from the charity stripe. The Blazers' bench scored 30 points in the contest. Mariah Collins led the Blazers with 12 points and chipped in six assists in the game. Additionally, she went 5-for-7 from the free throw line and added three steals. Sydney Martin was the next leading scorer for the Green and Gold, as she tallied 11 points and shot 40 percent from behind the arc.
The Blazers fall to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play and will return to action on Thursday, February 5th against Hardin-Simmons University inside Rugg Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
