Belhaven Secures Series Sweep with a 15-5 Run-Rule Victory over UMHB

BELTON, Texas – The Belhaven University baseball team got 15 runs from its offense against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to secure the series sweep in American Southwest Conference play. With the win, the Blazers improve to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

The offense got things rolling from the start, as Belhaven scored six runs in the top of the sixth off of one hit to give the Blazers the early 6-0 lead. The Cru pushed a single run across in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-1. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Blazers added four runs in the top of the sixth, but UMHB responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 10-4 going into the top of the seventh.

After a scoreless seventh inning, the first two batters for Belhaven struck out and after back-to-back-to-back homeruns from Julyan Urena, Hunter White, and Nick Lucido the Blazers extended their lead to 13-4. The scoring for the Green and Gold did not stop there as Trip Benson and Evan Moore had RBI singles to give the Blazers the 15-4 lead. The Cru needed to score two runs to keep the game going, but UMHB only scored one run in the bottom of the eighth. The Blazers secured the run-rule victory over UMHB in eight innings.

Hunter White led the Blazers' offense going 2-for-3 from the plate, scored two runs, and had three RBI in the contest. Julyan Urena, Caleb Whittle, and Trip Benson posted two RBI in the game. Logan Walters and Justin Milam tallied two hits apiece. Harris Coleman started on the mound for the Blazers and pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs and five hits.

The Blazers will return to the field on Tuesday March 3rd at Millsaps College for the first game of the Cowbow Maloney Series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
