Women's Basketball Postseason Ends Against Mary Hardin-Baylor

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell in the quarterfinals of the ASC Championship Tournament on Thursday. The team was beaten 98-55 by #16/17 Mary Hardin-Baylor, the top seed from the West Division.

The Blazers qualified for the ASC Championship Tournament in their first season as full, eligible members of the American Southwest Conference and the NCAA. On the year, Belhaven went 14-12 and 7-9 in conference play.

In the game against UMHB, the Blazers fought to keep pace with the Cru trimming an early lead down to just three points after struggling to shoot early. At the end of the first period, the Blazers trailed UMHB 27-12. Belhaven would battle with the Cru throughout the remainder of the first period and trailed 42-27 at the break.

Foul trouble hindered the Blazers in the second half as both Peyton Papenburg and Sydney Martin would foul out while three more players finished with three or more fouls. The Cru were able to pull away from the Blazers in the second half and extend their lead before taking the game and advancing in the ASC Championship Tournament.

In the game, Mariah Collins led Belhaven offensively with 15 points while adding five rebounds and five assists. Peyton Papenburg finished with 12 for the Blazers and six rebounds.
