Blazers Drop Season Finale at Sul Ross State

THE RUNDOWN

ALPINE, Texas– The Belhaven University softball team dropped the final game of the 2019 season to the Sul Ross State University Lobos by a final score of 3-1 in American Southwest Conference play.

Sul Ross jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first, when Rodriguez drilled a RBI-single. She scored Hardin on the play, who had a lead-off single.

Abbey Allen tallied the only hit over the next two innings of play, but the Lobos still held on to the lead.

With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Danielle Darmohray reached first on a throwing error. Brister Curry then stepped up to the plate and roped an RBI-double to left field to score Darmohray to tie the ballgame up at 1-1.

The Blazers had an opportunity to score in fifth, but could not bring the runner home from third base. 

The Lobos added a pair of runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning, when Alvarado hit a two-run blast to left field to make the score 3-1 after six full innings.

The Green and Gold could not rally in the top of the seventh, as the Lobos took the series by a final score of 3-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Brister Curry and Anna Peyton Montesi led the Blazers going 2-for-3 from the plate. Curry had the only RBI in the game for Belhaven.

Allie Gordon and Abbey Allen finished the contest with a hit.

Jordan Self went the distance for the Blazers in the circle. Self tossed 6.0 innings and only gave up two earned runs and six hits. She also struck out a batter in the game.

As a team, Belhaven posted six hits in the contest.

The Blazers finish the season with a 15-25 overall record and went 9-18 in conference play.
