JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University baseball team dropped the series opening game against the McMurry Warhawks on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 7-0 in American Southwest Conference play. 

The Warhawks used back to back hits to begin the top of the first inning with a 1-0 lead before loading the bases, and utilizing a grand slam home run to left field from Sam Hillyer to take a 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

In the sixth inning McMurry plated two more runs on a double off the bat of Blaine McRay to take a 7-0 advantage over the Green and Gold.

McMurry held the Blazers to just six hits in the game, defeating Belhaven by a final score of 7-0 in game one of the series. 

GAME STATS

Belhaven had six hits as a team including a 2-for-4 performance from both Trip Benson and Hunter White. Benson had a double to begin the ninth inning. 

Evan Moore and Tucker Calhoun had the other two hits in the ball game for the Blazers.

Brandon Foncree threw 3.2 innings of relief, allowing no runs and one hit.  

UP NEXT

Belhaven will return to Smith Wills Stadium tomorrow for the final two games in the season with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. against McMurry.
