AUSTIN, Texas – The Belhaven University softball team fell to the Concordia Tornados on Thursday evening by a final score of 14-4 in American Southwest Conference play to begin the three game series.

The Blazers struck first in the second inning of the game after a single to left center field from Marissa Rice that plated Danielle Darmohray for the first run of the game. 

Moments later, Meghan Luker singled through the right side to score Rice, giving Belhaven a 2-0 lead.

Belhaven added to their lead in the top half of the third inning after a Brianna Dollar single to center field allowed Bailey Root to cross home plate for a 3-0 lead. 

Brister Curry drove in the fourth run of the game for the Green and Gold with a single to center field. 

Belhaven led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third, where Concordia put up a seven spot on the scoreboard to take a 7-4 lead.

The Tornados added to their lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning with three more runs to stretch the score to a commanding 10-4 advantage. 

Concordia solidified their lead with a home run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 14-4 and claim the victory over the Blazers in game one of the series.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

As a team, the Blazers had a total of seven hits and four runs in today's contest.

Danielle Darmohray led the Blazers going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.

Brister Curry, Meghan Luker, Marissa Rice, and Brianna Dollar each collected a hit and had an RBI in the game. Marlee Blackwell finished with one hit.

UP NEXT

The Blazers will return to the field on tomorrow, April 12, for a doubleheader against the Tornados in Austin, Texas. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. with game two expected to begin at 4:00 p.m.
