THE RUNDOWN
JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University baseball team defeated the Millsaps Majors on Tuesday evening by a final score of 8-5 to claim the series and bring back home the Cowboy Maloney Series Trophy in the final season for Head Coach Hill Denson.
Belhaven won the first contest back on March 6, defeating the Majors by a final of 13-7 behind an eleven strike out performance by Kyle Whittington in game one of the series.
In game two, Belhaven positioned themselves for the victory by jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
Millsaps tied the game up at 3-3 in the fifth inning before Belhaven eventually added five runs in the sixth inning to go ahead 8-3.
The Majors made a run down the stretch but the Green and Gold held on for the victory, winning 8-5 to improve to 8-13 overall on the season.
SCORING SUMMARY
FIRST INNING
Evan Moore scored the first run of the ball game, scoring on a wild pitch to give Belhaven 1-0 lead.
THIRD INNING
Julyan Urena helped add another run by singling to the shortstop, scoring Steven Liuzza to extend the Blazers leas to 2-0.
A steal home from Tucker Calhoun put a second run on the board in the inning, allowing Belhaven to jump ahead 3-0.
SIXTH INNING
Logan Walters singled up the middle, scoring Nick Lucido. Belhaven broke a 3-3 tie with the run to make the score 4-3.
With the bases loaded, Trip Benson safely reached base on a fielders choice to allow the bases to remain juiced, while scoring Logan Walters to extend the lead to 5-3.
A sacrifice fly to left field scored Justin Milam with Trip Benson later scoring on an error by the third baseman as Belhaven increased its lead to 7-3.
Steven Liuzza scored to make the score 8-3 after an RBI single to right field from Evan Moore.

Tucker Calhoun and Evan Moore each tallied two hits apiece on the night. Belhaven Finished with nine hits total as a team.
Steven Liuzza led Belhaven with two runs scored in the contest.
Belhaven had a field day on the base paths, stealing a total of nine bases in the game. Nick Lucido led Belhaven with four stolen bases while Evan Moore finished with three stolen bases.
