RICHARDSON, Texas – The Belhaven women's basketball team fell to the No. 21 ranked University of Texas at Dallas Comets by a final score of 92-52 on Saturday afternoon in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter – The Comets struck first with a three-pointer yet Brittany Ford answered with a three of her own at the 8:34 mark to tie to game up a 3-3. A pair of free throws from Lauren Brooks and a jumper by Kimberly Calhoun allowed Belhaven to cut the Comets lead but at the midway point of the first quarter, Belhaven trailed 18-7. Belhaven put up 8 points over the next five minutes until the first quarter buzzer went off with the Green and Gold trailing 25-15.

Second Quarter – The Comets opened up the second quarter on a 13-0 run in the first two and a half minutes before DeQuandra Lyles drilled a three-pointer to stop the run. The Comets led 45-28 at the half.

Third Quarter – Coming out of the break, the Comets increases its lead to twenty points with just under five minutes left and finished with a 13-2 run to close out the third quarter, ahead 71-40

Fourth Quarter – Belhaven was outscored 21-12 in the final ten minutes of play, falling to the Comets by a final score of 92-52.

• Brittany Ford finished 4-of-9 from the field (3-of-8 from three-point range) with a team-high 11 points.
• AaLiyaha Thornton had 8 points and a team-high four rebounds. 
• DeQuandra Lyles notched 7 points in the contest and a team-high four steals. 
• Destiny Johnson added a team high 8 rebounds, followed by Autumn Covington with seven rebounds, and Lauren Brooks with five rebounds.

The Blazers will remain return home to Rugg Arena to take on Louisiana College on Tuesday, February 5, in an ASC matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
