HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- Jackson State struck first in game one, scoring a run in the top of the first inning when Hansard singled to left field to score Smith to give the Tigers the early 1-0 advantage.
- Belhaven got the run back at the bottom of the first inning when
Allie Gordon singled to score
Abby Mondy to tie the ball game up at 1-1.
- After a scoreless second inning, the Tigers plated another run in the top of the third inning after Hansard picked up her second RBI of the game to make the score 2-1.
- Pitcher
Bailey Root helped herself out offensively by hitting a single to centerfield to bring home
Allie Gordon to tie the game up 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- The Blazers and Tigers could not score in the next three innings as the score was still tied 2-2 at the end of seven innings to force ITB or International Tie Breaker.
- In the top of the eighth inning, JSU scored a run off of a single by Kelsey Smith to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
-
The Blazers knew that they had to score at least one run to keep the game alive in the bottom of the eighth inning. Marlee Blackwell laid down a perfect SAC bunt to move Abby Mondy to third base. Allie Gordon then comes up to plate and crushes a two-run homerun to give the Blazers the 4-3 victory in game one over the Tigers.
Game Two
-
In the opening three innings of play, the Blazers and Tigers did not score any runs as it looked to be a pitcher's duel.
- The Tigers scored the first runs of the game when Aplon hit a two-run shot to give JSU the 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. The fourth inning did not stop there, as the Tigers plated two more runs to take a 4-0 advantage over the Blazers.
- After a scoreless fifth inning of play, the Blazers bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jackson State loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning and then hit a batter to give Belhaven their first run of the game. The Blazers rally did not stop there as four more runs came across the plate in the sixth inning giving BU the 5-4 advantage going into the seventh inning.
- Belhaven held on to defeat Jackson State in the second game of the doubleheader by a 5-4 final score. The Blazers improved to 2-0 on the early season after defeating NCAA Division I Jackson State University.
