Blazers Historic Season Ends in a Penalty Shootout at the ASC Championships to UTD

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Belhaven University women's soccer team saw its historic season come to a close in the quarterfinals of the ASC Championships on Tuesday with a 4-3 loss off of penalty kicks to UTD in Richardson, Texas.

The Blazers' defense was phenomenal in the match, but especially in the first half. Belhaven held UTD to three shots in the first half with none of the shots being on-goal. At the halftime break, the Blazers and Comets were knotted up at 0-0.

In the 75th minute, Jennifer Hosey found the back of the net to give the Green and Gold the 1-0 advantage. The Blazers held on to the lead until UTD scored a goal with 41 seconds remaining in regulation. At the end of 90 minutes, the Blazers and Comets were tied 1-1 to force overtime play.

Twenty overtime minutes were not enough to declare a winner, as the Blazers and Comets were still tied at 1-1 to force Penalty Kicks. UTD earned the 4-3 victory on PKs, as Belhaven's season comes to a close. Emily Malcom, Kaitlyn Summerlin, and Pepper Ann Filbert scored their Penalty Kicks.

Forward Peyton Papenburg took three shots, while Pepper Ann Filbert and Ashley Langham tallied two shots in the match. Jennifer Hosey took one shot, which was a goal. Four additional Blazers took a shot in the contest.
