JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers women's soccer team played host to the Sul Ross State Lady Lobos on the pitch at Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Saturday, October 5, and when the final whistle blew, the Blazers had earned their fifth shutout of the season and their second consecutive American Southwest Conference victory, 2-0.
The first goal for the Blazers came in the 30th minute as junior midfielder
Pepper Ann Filbert, boomed the ball from thirty plus yards out and curved the ball past the Lady Lobos goalkeeper, giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead that they held on to through the remainder of the half and took the lead into the locker room at halftime.
The second goal came in the 70th minute as junior defender
Sarah Chastain headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick by Filbert, increasing the Blazers lead to 2-0 and sealing the shutout victory.
The Blazers improve to 7-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in ASC play, and will return to action next week with two road matches against the East Texas Baptist Tigers on Thursday, October 10, and then facing off against the LeTorneau YellowJackets on Saturday, October, 12. Both matches are set to kickoff at 5 p.m.
