LONGVIEW, Texas – The Belhaven University volleyball team took on LeTourneau University and Texas Lutheran University on Saturday in a doubleheader matchup on the campus of LeTourneau University. Belhaven stumbled in both matches by a final score of 3-0. The Blazers fell to 7-14 on the season and 2-8 in conference play.
In the first match of the doubleheader, BU kept it close early in the first set until LeTourneau went on a 9-2 run with LETU holding on to the 16-8 advantage. The Blazers struggled to find rhythm as the Yellowjackets took set one by a score of 25-12. LETU took a commanding 8-2 lead in the second set, but the Blazers rallied back to cut the lead to just one point. The Yellowjackets caught an offensive spark going on a 13-2 run to bring the score to 22-10. LeTourneau would go on to take the second set 25-12 and take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the third and final set, the Yellowjackets jumped out and took a 20-9 advantage going into the final points of the final set. The Blazers would go on to drop the third set by a final of 25-14 as LeTouneau claimed 3-0 victory over the Blazers.
Chelsea Creighton led the offense for the Blazers with four kills, while
Vivien Marquez posted three kills and
Evelyn Parker tallied two kills.
Callista Moore added one block and an ace in the contest.
Grace Eidson had four assists in the match and
Sydney McEachern led the defense with 13 digs.
The Blazers suffered a rough 25-8 first set loss in the second match of the doubleheader. The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, but the Blazers narrowed the lead to just 4 points midway through the match. After being down 20-9 late in the second set, the Green and Gold made five more points in the set. The Yellowjackets took the set 25-14 and the 2-0 advantage. LeTourneau dominated the third set as the Blazers dropped the set 25-10 and the match 3-0.
Callista Moore led the Blazers with four kills and four digs, while
Vivien Marquez also posted four kills.
Chelsea Creighton added three kills and
Grace Eidson tallied five assists and an ace.
Kristin Fogan led this match on defense with 11 digs, while
Megan Nobles registered seven digs.
The Blazers will look to regroup on Tuesday, October 15 went they head to Pensacola, Fla, to take on the University of West Florida in a non-conference matchup. First serve is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
