Blazers Find Offensive Spark in Loss to ETBU

JACKSON, Miss. -  The Belhaven University football team dropped a 46-20 decision on Saturday evening at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium in American Southwest Conference action. The Blazers fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

- Belhaven got things rolling in the first quarter after stopping ETBU on downs to supply the offense early momentum. 

- With an 8-play 54-yard drive, quarterback Hunter McEachern capped things off with a two-yard rushing touchdown to propel the Blazers' ahead 7-0. It was Belhaven's first touchdown of the season.

- The Tigers scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession and evened things up after a 12-play 74-yard drive.

- East Texas Baptist would eventually take the lead after scoring on their next possession as they led 13-7 late in the first quarter. 

- The second provided solid defense by both teams, as ETBU knocked home two field goals to extend their advantage to 19-7 at the break. 

- In the second half of action, the Tigers scored immediately on a one-play 91-yard passing touchdown which brought their lead up to 18 points, at 25-7. 

- Joey Walden's 34-yard touchdown reception from Hunter McEachern cut into the deficit and pulled the Blazers within two possessions. 

- The Tigers would score three touchdowns on their next three possessions as they increased their lead all the way out to 46-13. 

- With the Blazers trailing in a deep hole, the offense orchestrated another touchdown drive. BU operated quickly on a 3-play 69-yard drive as Joey Walden recorded a 39-yard touchdown reception from McEachern for the second time in the evening.

KEY STATISTICS 
- Hunter McEachern finished the contest 13-31 on passing attempts for 175 yards and two touchdowns. 

- Additionally, McEachern added a two-yard rushing touchdown. 

- Brad Foley led the ground attack and eclipsed the century mark with 140 rushing yards. Foley also posted 42 receiving yards. 

- Joey Walden notched two touchdown receptions and four catches for a total of 106 yards. 

- Defensively, Denarrius Noel led the way with nine tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. Noel also had a fumble recovery. 

- David Hudson registered a forced fumble and added 6.5 tackles on the night. 

- As a team, Belhaven recorded 371 yards of total offense, a season-high. The Blazers also totaled 18 first downs.

UP NEXT 

Belhaven will go on the road for the first time this season as they take on ASC opponent Howard Payne in Brownwood, Texas.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
