Women’s Soccer Opens 2018 Season With 1-1 Draw Against Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – For the second consecutive season, the Belhaven University women's soccer team played an extra 20 minutes to open the 2018 season. The Blazers traveled up Riverside Drive to square off against Millsaps, which resulted in a 1-1 draw in double overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Green and Gold got on the board first in the 19thminute when Alex Trammel scored a goal to bring the score to 1-0.

- Shortly after the goal, the game was halted due to a weather delay.  The delay only lasted 30 minutes and then the match resumed.

- After the delay, the Majors found the back of the net to make the score 1-1.

- The Blazers outshot the Majors 8-2 in the first 45 minutes of action.

- The score would remain 1-1 going into intermission.

- The Blazers' defense would remain lights out in the second half of regulation to force overtime play.

- The Blazers and Majors had chances to score in the first overtime but the score was still knotted up at 1-1.

- Heading into the second overtime, Erica Rempel had a shot on goal in the 106thminute, but Alyssa McCarron was there for the save. 

- Four minutes later, the final horn blew and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

KEY STATISTICS
- Alex Trammel scored the first goal of the season for the Blazers. She also lead the team with five shots.

- As a team, the Green and Gold out shot the Majors 17-12.

- The Blazers also had 10 shots on goal.

- Goal Keeper Georgia Jordan played the entire 110 minutes in the draw.

The Blazers will return to the field tomorrow September 1 at 5:00 p.m. in Shreveport, La. facing off against Centenary College.
