Blazers Shutout Oakland City to Advance to the NCCAA Regional Championship

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Belhaven University softball team shutout Oakland City University, 6-0, to advance to the NCCAA Mideast Regional Championship on Tuesday afternoon at East Gibson Girls' Softball League Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marlee Blackwell's two-RBI single in the bottom of the first to put BU ahead 2-0.

- Belhaven scored three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

- Brianna Dollar led the bottom of the fourth off with a double to left center field.

- Brittany Chetta laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Dollar to third base with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

- Kaitlyn Blubaugh grounded out to the shortstop but knocked home Dollar to extend the lead to 6-0.

- The Green and Gold got out of the sixth inning with a 6-4-3 double play.

- The Blazers held their ground in the top of the seventh to close out the game with a score of 6-0.

- Jordan Herring got the start in the circle for the Blazers and kept Oakland City's offense in check.

KEY STATISTICS
- Jordan Herring tossed a complete game and struck out three batters.

- Herring improved her record to 13-6 inside the circle.

- Marlee Blackwell went 1-3 at the plate and added three RBI.

- Brianna Dollar collected a hit and scored a run in the contest.

- Whitney Jemison and Makayla Reed both finished the game 1-3 and each scored a run.

- Meg Garton scored two runs in the game and went 1-3 at the plate.

- The Green and Gold recorded five hits as a team.

The Blazers will return to the field tomorrow May 9th for the NCCAA Mideast Regional Championship against the winner of Alice Lloyd and Oakland City. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
