BOTETOURT, Va. – The Belhaven University Softball team clinched a spot in the NCCAA World Series Semi-Finals, after defeating Emmanuel College 5-3 on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to left center from
Whitney Jemison, which scored
Meg Garton to take a 1-0 lead.

Jordan Herring got the start in the circle for the third straight time in the World Series.

Meg Garton and
Makayla Reed started the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles.
- Garton scored on an error, followed by an RBI single to right from
Cassidy Blount, which allowed Reed to score from third to take a 3-0 advantage.
- Emmanuel College loaded up the bases in the top of the fourth with one out but was held to just one run as the lead shifted to 3-1.
- After a leadoff walk in the fifth, the Lions had runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth.
- However, the Blazers got out of the jam after a strikeout by
Jordan Herring.
- Belhaven added two runs in the bottom of the fifth with two runs scored on bases-loaded walks.
Makayla Reed and
Cassidy Blount each crossed the plate for a 5-1 lead.
- Emmanuel scored twice in the top of the seventh inning, but the Green and Gold held their ground and defeated the Lions by a score of 5-3.

KEY STATISTICS

Jordan Herring tossed another complete game in the circle, which brings her overall record to 16-7 on the season.

Whitney Jemison collected two RBI and scored a run in the game.

Meg Garton finished the day 1-3 at the plate and scored two runs.

Cassidy Blount went 1-2 at the plate. Blount also added an RBI in the contest.

Marlee Blackwell went 1-4 in the game and earned an RBI.
- As a team, the Blazers had six hits in the game.

UP NEXT
The Blazers remain undefeated in the NCCAA World Series and will return to the field tomorrow May 18
th; to face off against Judson University at 10:00 a.m. EST. Belhaven defeated Judson University yesterday in Pool Play by a score of 6-2.
